Rising Cruise in Open Cup Opener with Dominant 4–0 Win

It was a professional, no-nonsense performance from Phoenix Rising FC as they kicked off their 2026 U.S. Open Cupcampaign with a 4–0 win over San Ramon FC on March 17 in Phoenix. From the opening whistle, Rising looked in control, and it didn’t take long for that dominance to show on the scoreboard. Hope Avayevu opened the scoring in the 15th minute, setting the tone for a comfortable night at home.

Phoenix kept the pressure on and doubled their lead just before halftime through Juan Carvajal in stoppage time, giving the hosts full control heading into the break. The second half saw more of the same, with Rising dictating the tempo and limiting San Ramon’s chances. Late goals from Aleksandar Vukovic, who scores on his birthday, as well as Anthony Capetillo Hernandez, who became the youngest ever to score for the Phoenix side in club history.

By the final whistle, the 4–0 scoreline reflected Phoenix’s quality and composure. It wasn’t just a win, it was a statement start to their cup run. With contributions across the lineup and a clean sheet to match, Rising took care of business and moved on, exactly as a USL Championship side is expected to do against lower-division opposition.
